🌿 Hold On a Little Longer — It’s Okay to Not Be Okay
There have been moments in my life when I felt like I was simply done.
Done with being hurt.
Done with being disappointed.
Done with giving my heart to people and feeling like it was betrayed in return.
There was a point when I wanted to give up everything.
I wanted to step away from my position as a youth pastor. I wanted to stop giving so much of myself to other people. I was tired of loving people, caring about people, and trying to be there for them, only to feel hurt afterward.
And honestly, there was a moment when I thought,
“I don't care anymore.”
I didn't want to care about how other people felt.
I didn't want to keep being the person with the soft heart.
For as long as I can remember, people have told me that I have a soft heart. I've always been someone who loves deeply, cares deeply, and wants the best for people.
But when you're hurt over and over again, sometimes you start wondering if having a soft heart is worth it.
I felt exhausted.
I felt hurt.
And I felt like I had nothing left to give.
🤍 It's Okay to Feel This Way
For a while, I felt guilty for feeling that way.
I thought, “This isn't me.”
I'm supposed to love people.
I'm supposed to care.
I'm supposed to have compassion.
So why am I feeling like I don't want to care anymore?
But I've learned something:
It's okay to feel tired.
It's okay to admit that you're hurt.
It's okay to say, “I don't have the strength right now.”
Feeling this way doesn't mean you've stopped loving people.
Sometimes it simply means you've been carrying too much for too long.
And I think God understands that.
🌿 Hold On a Little Longer
There was something I started telling myself:
“Hold on a little longer. Everything is going to be okay.”
I would remind myself:
Hold on a little longer.
You'll become stronger each day.
You'll learn to love again.
You'll learn patience.
You'll heal.
One day at a time.
I didn't know exactly how everything was going to be okay.
I didn't have all the answers.
But I knew I couldn't give up on myself.
And I couldn't give up on what God was still doing in me.
🌸 Maybe You're Tired Too
Maybe you're reading this and you're tired too.
Maybe you've given your heart to people who hurt you.
Maybe you've been there for everyone else and you're wondering who will be there for you.
Maybe you've reached a point where you don't even want to care anymore because caring has become painful.
If that's you, I want you to know something:
It's okay to feel that way.
You don't have to pretend you're okay when you're hurting.
You don't have to feel guilty because you're exhausted.
Take a breath.
Give yourself permission to acknowledge what you're feeling.
And then...
hold on a little longer.
Not because everything will magically change overnight.
But because this moment is not the end of your story.
🤍 God Is Still With You
I believe God was with me even during the moments when I felt like giving up.
He didn't ask me to pretend that I wasn't hurt.
He didn't ask me to ignore what I was feeling.
Instead, I began learning that I could bring those feelings to Him.
I could tell Him:
“God, I'm tired.”
“I'm hurt.”
“I don't know how much more I can take.”
And I could still trust Him.
I don't believe every difficult thing that happens to us is something God caused. But I do believe He can meet us in those difficult places and help us grow through them.
Maybe that's what was happening in me.
Maybe God wasn't trying to take away my soft heart.
Maybe He was teaching me how to have a strong heart without losing my tender one.
Maybe He was teaching me that loving people doesn't mean allowing people to continually hurt me.
Maybe He was teaching me patience.
Boundaries.
Discernment.
Grace.
And most importantly, how to love without losing myself.
🌿 One Day at a Time
I'm still learning.
I'm still healing.
I'm still growing.
And there are still days when I get tired.
But now I remind myself:
Hold on a little longer.
You don't have to figure everything out today.
You don't have to know how everything will work out.
Just take the next step.
Tomorrow may look different.
And the person you are becoming through this season may be stronger, wiser, more compassionate, and even more grounded in God than you ever imagined.
So if you're tired today...
Hold on a little longer.
If you're hurting...
Hold on a little longer.
If you don't feel like yourself...
Hold on a little longer.
You don't have to have everything together.
It's okay to not be okay.
Just don't forget that you're not walking through it alone.
God is still with you.
And little by little, day by day, He can make you stronger. He can teach you how to love again. He can teach you patience. He can heal the places that hurt.
You just have to keep going.
Hold on a little longer. Everything is going to be okay. 🤍
📖 A Word to Hold Onto
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
— Psalm 34:18
🙏 A Simple Prayer
Lord,
I'm tired.
Sometimes I don't understand why I've had to go through certain things, and sometimes I don't feel like I have anything left to give.
Help me when I'm hurting.
Help me when I feel like giving up.
Teach me how to love without losing myself.
Teach me patience when I'm frustrated.
Give me strength when I feel weak.
And remind me that I don't have to have everything figured out today.
Help me hold on a little longer and trust that You are still working in me.
Thank You for staying with me through every season.
Amen. 🤍
